Memories and Shiny Pennies

The two penny backs as I saw them

Thirteen years after my husband’s death I am happy; my back is stabilized after a long bout with sciatica from two lumber discs bulging (I lost 25 pounds which helped a lot). I have a good home, two awesome sons and two wonderful daughters in law, and three grandchildren! (Oh, and my cat, Norie.) I have three friends who mean so very much to me and I am thankful for my life.

So this particular day was our anniversary date so I had my mind on memories of my husband but only the good memories from our early years together. I was on the way to see a friend who lives in North Raleigh when I noticed that the front window was dirty and streaky so I stopped at a filling station to get some paper towels to clean the streaky passenger side of the windshield.

As I opened my car door for some reason I looked down and saw a shiny penny with the bottom side up. The symbol on the back was one I had not noticed before. Since I had been told that finding a shiny penny meant someone in heaven (a deceased loved one, an angel, or God) sent it to remind me that I am loved, I wondered if maybe my husband was thinking of me after finding peace in the afterlife now that his soul had found healing in heaven. Well, that was nice if it’s true, but it was only one penny.

I found some sturdy napkins and decided to give them a try on the windshield. As I came to the store’s automatic opening door, I looked down and saw another shiny, copper penny with the back side up and the same different symbols on the back. This was a very unusual occurrence for me to find two shiny pennies in excellent condition, with the same emblems and with the same side up within minutes of each other.

I can’t help but believe this might have been a way of letting me know something. Because of the significance of the date, the two pennies being so alike and within minutes of each other, I believe that I was being told that I was loved by my deceased husband, because of the facts that he had been on my mind that day and was letting me know he may have been thinking of me too.

Then more recently I was entering my condo building and looked down for some reason and there was another penny. This one was older. Having had this kind of expereince before, I picked it up with great curiosity. It was face up and an older copper(?) penny. I looked at the year it beingwas minted. It was 1951! My and my husband’s birth year! What are the odds of this happening when I was thinking of him.

    1. Thank you, Beth! I think it was quite unique when one considers the pennies had the same new back; were shiny and new looking; both pennies’ backs were up; both were both found when I was leaving my car and in one or two minutes the store. So very strange and special.

  1. I believe love never dies and have often received signs of my loved ones ongoing presence. If these pennies have meaning for you, hold them close, as you connect with your husband’s energy. Thank you for sharing your beautiful love story with all of us.
    Many Blessings

    1. Thank you. Lisa. I have a stand where I have placed things that are dear to me. Those pennies go in a small Chinese bowl with several feathers I looked down and saw at other times. I also have a South American flute, a small Native American Drum, and two dream catchers on the top two shelves. On the bottom shelves I have three carved cork scenes made in China, and a small four drawer chest painted with black enamel that my grandsons like to play with. They are all reminders of things I have been interested in and that I loved.

        1. I do too. I have been thinking about my cat, Sister, whom I had to have euthanized three years ago because of a brain tumor. She was so gentle, affectionate, and sweet. Last week I found a hair of hers, quite unlike my black cat’s, on the bathroom counter which has been cleaned many times since her death. I believe she was letting me know she still loved me. So amazing!
