I am an Oak Tree!

I am an oak tree tall, with many branches. I have many branches, for I am an old oak. My limbs extend over one large yard, providing shade for those who seek it. I offer my many acorns to feed the squirrels and other forest creatures who enjoy them.

Wise from my long years of observance. I have seen much beauty from my acorns growing into young saplings, watching them from when they started out from a small stem slowly coming out of the earth.

I have seen some of my children die when they are just starting to grow to good height, with a fertile root system, cut down to make way for the humans.

I do not hate the humans. I know they are a needy bunch. Always wanting more room to build and expand. But they don’t know that when one of us is cut down, our souls go deeper into the earth to feed another tree our wisdom and experience. At least we recycle ourselves.

I stand for the others, the young and the old, too. Sharing my shady branches with other trees and growing roots with the other trees, branching downward, deep into the rich fertile soil I was planted in and outwards to other trees to provide support. I am an oak tree of the old, wise ones.
