Why Racism?

I realize this is a fiery topic but I want to make some points for consideration. We all are human beings! Whether our first ancestors came about centuries or thousands of years ago, we are all from the same basic origins. So technically, somewhere many, many years ago, we all came into being. We are all human beings with the same number of eyes, lips, hands, and feet. Our skin is the same regardless of color and texture.

We all eat many of the same foods or variations of them. We all need sleep, fresh air, clothing to stay warm, to protect us from the sun, rain, snow, or sleet. We all make families and reproduce anatomically the same way, and most of us have learned how to support our families and help our children to grow into useful adults.

Sure, we all have differences but they are not as important as the fact that basically and genetically, we are all human beings. Some people have darker skin than others, some have fairer skin than others. Some speak one language or more, some use sign language, if their culture does not have a spoken language. But we are all human beings. We are not beings who are half-gorilla and half- human. We people are “ARE ALL HUMAN BEINGS!!”

I realize in every culture or many, there are the poor and the rich and the middle income and everything in between! But “WE ARE ALL HUMAN BEINGS!!!”

I realize there has been persecution of people who some considered inferior, uneducated, snobby, mean, rude, or “different” from us, but…”THEY ARE ALL HUMAN BEINGS!!!”

But regardless of their differences, personality quirks, good characteristics or bad, “We are all people!!”

So let’s think about this when we decide we want to kill, insult, hate, injure, treat someone badly, enslave or destroy another culture because it is different from ours! Those who are different from us or each other are still “PEOPLE!!!”

No matter how wicked, or loving someone is; “They are still PEOPLE!”

So what is there that makes someone decide to be loving or hateful, kind or cruel?

I believe that in some people there is so much fear of whatever they are not accustomed to, that they can’t be open to new ideas or new neighbors, or people who they consider to be “different.” After all, think of all the many things people are afraid of. Here are but a few: fear of the unknown, fear of loss, fear of failure, fear of being less than someone else. There is also the element of hatred for new introductions to the “old ways:” The “old ways” worked, so why change them with new people with new ideas, new advances over the old ways?” I think racism is based on fear as much as hate. I could be wrong, but they are inevitably tied together in some way.

I have always found that most human beings treated with respect, kindness, and (yes, dare I say it) LOVE will respond in like manner. Yes, there are some who are so wounded or abused or mistreated by parents or others that they don’t know how to handle kindness and respect without being suspicious.

So please look at other people as at least distant relatives. Be civil, kind, helpful, and polite instead of hateful, judgmental, cruel and mean….PLEASE! Let’s make our world a better place for our children.

    1. Thank you! Glad you agree. There is just too much prejudice in the world. If we could look past someone’s sk8n color, sexual preference, politics, wealth or lack there of, they are still just people. Keep up the good work!
