My heart and mind have been full of sadness for those who have suffered so much from the hurricanes, flooding, destruction, deaths and loss of homes. How hard it is sometimes to choose one person when the “mudslinging and insulting” is going on! It has been and still is difficult to listen, focus, and choose a topic and title that we all can agree on. Some words can touch people’s hearts and minds, and remind them of love and peace. What subject or even words could I write that would possibly remind people to love others and create an umbrella of peace over the world?
There is so much turmoil, violence, frustration, grief, hate, suffering, anger, and fear from: losing a job, or business because of finances and shut downs; the depression that many have felt and are still feeling from the hurricanes, tornadoes, flooding, loss, deaths: and the long sadness of not seeing people, friends, or family for a long period of time with no end in sight for some.
This is another pain that has weighed on my heart. I was raised as a Christian to love people; that everyone was a child of God. Unfortunately I was not around a lot of black people because I grew up in the 50’s. But even at an early age, skin color or race was not an issue to me. Seeing any of my fellow human beings having pain, living with fear or suffering, affects me deeply because I love people and care about them.
After four efforts to write this post, one truth came clearly to me: I cannot have a major impact on or heal all of the suffering, hatred, pain, fear, etc. Only God can change the hearts of people if they want to change; can bring peace and love to troubled hearts; can heal the wounds of hatred, both on the hater and the hated. I decided that it would be wiser to leave all of those problems to the Creator. God is big enough to bring about healing, help, and change in the world. But we have to have open hearts to accept His guidance in our lives; to help, and make the necessary changes in the world.
We can make a difference wherever we are though, by being kind, showing that we truly care for and love people, and that we will help, when and if we are able. We can also pray for our world in the hopes someone will be touched and shown what the world needs now.
So how do you fit into this world? Are you a positive influence? Do you try to understand what someone else is going through? Can you speak words of encouragement when it is needed? Can you love others? Who are you, in the grand scheme of things? Are you a positive or negative influence?
Put a Little Love In Your Heart by Jackie DeShannon
Think of your fellow man
Lend him a helping hand
Put a little love in your heart
You see it’s getting late
Oh, please don’t hesitate
Put a little love in your heart
And the world will be a better place
And the world will be a better place
For you and me
You just wait and see
Another day goes by
Still the children cry
Put a little love in your heartIf you want the world to know
We won’t let hatred grow
Put a little love in your heart
Take a good look around
And if you’re looking down
Put a little love in your heart
I hope when you decide
Kindness will be your guide
Put a little love in your hear
People now, put a little love in your heart
Each and every day
Put a little love in your heart
There’s no other way
Put a little love in your heart
It’s up to you
Put a little love in your heart
Come on and
Put a little love in your heart
You’ve got to
Put a little love in your heart

You are such a compassionate soul, thank you for sharing this

Beth, thank you. I really appreciate what you said. I am so tenderhearted that I cried when Bambi’s mother was killed. When little Dumbo’s mother was taken away I cried too. I think I am one of those people who totally get into the characters they see in a movie. Thank you for commenting too! Hugs!

Jackie DeShannen wrote and sang that song how many years ago and still, many are trapped by only a few whose hearts and minds just aren’t right.
Think of the book, the movie, “The Help.” All those people, black AND white, were held captive by one woman, Hilly. The blacks didn’t dare step out of line, and if the whites tried to correct Hilly, they were ostracized, i.e. punished, at least for a while.
We are many. In some way, we are all being held captive by a few. We must raise our voices until they hear us and back down, just like Hilly finally had to back down.
God bless.

Oh, and it’s not just the Blacks that have been enslaved by the few. Native Americans were, Indigenous Tribes on other continents were. Chinese were in mining and building railroads. People in India were. Even Irish and Scottish were endentured and misused for 7-10 years to work off their passage to the New World. And the list goes on and on and on – enslaved just by a few until we speak up against them.
And in the US, it starts at the voting booths this November.

Funny but I was about to suggest the Native Americans this morning but got sidetracked. Yes, thank you for adding to that. I didn’t even mention the Chinese and so many more. The world will be a better place when we all figure out that everyone is a human being instead of a work animal! I plan to vote for sure!

Thank you for commenting, RB. I agree there are even more races than the Black people. The very people who lived here first have had horrible lives thanks to the white people taking their lands, ruining their sacred lands. So many tribes don’t even have running water and did not get promised money to help them. Yes there are many people who
