We Are the World

I live in one of the best condominium families in the world. Everyone in this building is friendly, kind, generous and always available to help when one of us needs help.

I gave this post the title because of the people living here in my condominium . We have two retired Catholic ladies and one Catholic couple. There is a Muslim couple who lives across from me, who are very friendly and generous. If I arrive home after they have begun to unpack their groceries, they bring me a little treat or a gallon bottle of spring water. I recently found out this is a custom to share with your neighbor(s) after grocery shopping. The husband and wife always treat me kindly.

On the top floor there is a Hindu couple who are doctors. Both speak excellent English. They both are retired but active. They are both kind and friendly. In fact the Hindu husband and the Muslim husband walk around the large paved area of our condo and two other condos being built. They bundle up in cold weather and walk and talk for at least thirty minutes every morning. It is a beautiful sight to see the tall Muslim man walking with the much shorter Hindu man and developing their friendship.

I’ve seen them walk side by side many times but sometimes they walk one in front of the other. I believe they may be praying or meditating. Either way they are such a perfect example of how we all should learn to live. Everyone has a right to believe as they wish; whether right or wrong. If people could learn to love their fellow human regardless of what they believe and treat each other with respect and kindness, the world would be a much better place.

The Catholic ladies and couple are each always available to help someone, pray for someone, and always going to mass or service. Each asks how someone is doing and works to improve the lives of those around them. I love these people as if they were my family and I feel loved by them too. I am always available to help them if they need help and they are there to help me too. This is a small example of what our world could be like if we only tried to accept each other, forgive each other, try to understand each other, and if we just loved each other.

      1. The best part of travel is seeing that everyone is everywhere…be they good, bad, generous, selfish. Who we are is a product of who we are, not where we are born. Your story perfectly demonstrated this. You are lucky that the best people congregated around you. I feel the same.
