I try to understand why haters hate the way they do. What drives them to such behaviors. I try to be compassionate and understand what causes some people to hate. Are they desperate; some are sick in their minds or bodies or mentally ill; some may have been treated badly by their own parents or spouses and have no idea what kindness or love is or can be.

We need to teach our children, by example, stories and children’s books, to be kind and helpful to others. Where else will they learn these qualities unless they learn them from us?

Name-calling, yelling insults at others we disagree with, screaming at each other, fighting, spreading hatred, dividing families over opinions of different groups, does not resolve a situation or a conflict. Having an open heart and trying to accept the other person as a human being instead of “the other’ will go a long way to bringing peace into our country and the world.

I know it is hard when you see the things people do and say. But we won’t get anywhere if we continue on this path of hatred, judgment, fear, or taking pleasure in harming another person.

People inherit the genetics of their parents and the parents before them. They have no control over why their skin is darker or lighter or redder. So why do some of us hate “others” strictly based on that person’s skin color? Is it so hard to believe that a mother of a child could or would be mean to another child just because the child was from parents of a different race, skin color, country, religion, government, or opinion? It does happen. But it also happens the opposite way. A child with a loving nature can see that another child is friendly and go start to play with them.

Hatred is taught. Please learn to manage your own hatred to help your children become loving adults instead of prejudiced, hate-filled human beings. If someone is full of hate and makes vile comments to spread the hate around, please do not copy them. Those items have spread enough!!! Let’s try to SEE the people in front of us for who they are. Not just robots with skins on but people who have hearts, compassion, and love or at least acceptance.
